Testing The Spirit of Dubai: where to smell the fragrances before you buy
Anyone interested in The Spirit of Dubai often ends up in forums with the same complaint: the fragrances sound amazing, but there is nowhere to smell them. So people buy blind, for €255 or more. It doesn't have to be that way.
In a nutshell
- The Spirit of Dubai fragrances are expensive and hard to find. Buying blind is a risk.
- In our Dortmund store you can test four of them on your skin: Ajyal, Sama, Rimal and Majalis.
- Test on skin, not just on a paper strip, and smell again after a while.
Which fragrances can you test with us?
In our store on Brauhausstraße 3-5 you will find Ajyal, Sama and Rimal at €255 each and Majalis at €425, all 50 ml eau de parfum. What sets the four apart is explained in our fragrance comparison.
Why a paper strip is not enough
On paper you mainly smell the opening. On skin the fragrance is warm and develops over hours. Oriental fragrances with oud, amber and resins in particular change a lot. Many people who loved a scent on the strip are disappointed on skin, and the other way round.
How to test properly
- Two fragrances at most at a time: one on each wrist.
- Don't rub, just let it dry.
- Smell again after an hour, ideally in the evening too.
- If you are unsure, come back a second time. A €255 fragrance deserves a night's thought.
What about Marsa?
We don't carry Marsa at the moment. If that direction appeals to you, we are happy to advise which of our four comes closest.
More niche fragrances, including État Libre d'Orange from Paris, are in our fragrance selection.
