How long does État Libre d'Orange last? An honest answer
The question keeps coming up in fragrance forums, especially about You or Someone Like You: I love the scent, but after three or four hours I can't smell it any more. Others write in the same thread that none of their État Libre d'Orange fragrances are weak. Both are right.
In a nutshell
- Many État Libre d'Orange fragrances wear close to the skin and quietly; they don't fill a room.
- How long a fragrance lasts varies hugely from person to person. Some talk about three hours, others about a whole day.
- Test on your own skin before you buy. You can do that with us in Dortmund.
Why does longevity vary so much?
Skin is not all the same. Dry skin usually holds fragrance for less time than moisturised skin. Then there is habituation: after a while your nose barely notices a scent you wear all the time. Others can often still smell it. Feel free to ask someone whether they can still smell it on you.
Close to the skin is not a flaw
Many État Libre d'Orange fragrances are deliberately composed this way. They stay close to you instead of filling a room. If you want a fragrance that stays loud all day, these won't make you happy. If you want something personal that people only notice up close, they will.
How to get more out of it
- Apply to moisturised skin, for example after an unscented body lotion.
- Spray on clothing or a scarf: fabric often holds fragrance longer than skin. Be careful with silk and light fabrics.
- Don't rub.
Test before you buy
Among others we have You or Someone Like You, Putain des Palaces, Remarkable People and Nostos. Most cost €160 for 100 ml, Nostos €240. Spray a fragrance on in the store, take a walk through town and smell again a few hours later. Then you know how it lasts on you and don't have to rely on forum opinions. All fragrances from the house are in the État Libre d'Orange collection.
