Grapefruit Generation is inspired by an inspired time. The sixties: a generational shift when things opened up and timeless ideas resurfaced. Interest in Eastern poetry, Indian music, psychedelics and external exploration prepared us for a turn to internal exploration (whether it worked is another matter!).
One place to find some of that magic is Yoko Ono's "Grapefruit," which calls on the reader to perform rituals in terse, Zen-koan-like sentences. GG celebrates the exploration of a mythical Eastern garden, where a quixotic freshness unfolds many layers of fruit, flowers, leaves, and musk (and gems, and colors, and generations begetting generations).
